Funeral Services for Chad Gannon will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Gannon officiating. Burial will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, with Military Honors provided by the Martin-Horn American Legion Post # 66 in conjunction with the United States Marine Corps Military Honors Team.
Chad Ellis Gannon, 40 years of age, of Wilcox, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015 as the result of a single car motor vehicle accident near Wilcox. Chad was born August 3, 1974 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Dick and Jacque (Knoell) Gannon. He attended school in Holdrege and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1993.
Chad enlisted with the United States Marine Corps and went for basic training to Camp Pendleton, San Diego, California in 1993. Chad was a member of the Amphibious Assault Division, stationed in Japan and Russia, specifically. After he was honorably discharged in 1997 he spent time out on the west coast in California and Nevada until he moved back to Holdrege with his son, Nick in 2002.
Chad was employed by CashWa Distributing in Kearney, Nebraska.
On May 24, 2001, Chad was blessed with a son, Nickolas Parker.
On August 11, 2011, Chad was united in marriage to Michelle Gitchel in Kearney. The couple welcomed a son, Tyler Joel on August 2, 2013.
Chad loved his dog, Brass. He also enjoyed paintballing with friends, laser tag and spending time with friends and family. Chad was a large supporter of the Wounded Warriors Project.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Emmett and Yvonne Gannon; and an uncle, Bill Gannon in 2013.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle Gannon of Wilcox; two sons: Nick Gannon of Holdrege and Tyler Gannon of Wilcox; parents, Dick Gannon and his wife, Cheri of Holdrege and Jacque Knoell of Kearney, Nebraska; siblings: Lindsay Petersen of Kearney, Justin Norris of Holdrege and Jami Swanson and husband, Seth of Atlanta, Nebraska; mother and father-in-law: Theresa and Delbert Gitchel of Wilcox; grandparents: Phyllis and T. Carl "Spike" Knoell of Lincoln, Nebraska and Noel Gengler of Beloit, Kansas; sister-in-law, Mikayla Gitchel of Lincoln, Nebraska; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Chad's honor and kindly suggested to the family to create a college fund for his sons.
