Memorial Services for Charlene F. "Jinx" Cox will be conducted from the St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Jami Anderson, officiating.
Charlene Florence "Jinx" Cox, 82 years of age of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Holdrege Memorial Homes. She was born on August 15, 1926 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the eldest of two children of Charles G. and Edith (Holcomb) Frost. She received her education at Lincoln Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1944. She then pursued higher education at UNL and Bryan Memorial Hospital Nursing School, where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse in 1948. Jinx began her career as an RN at a Catholic hospital in Missouri.
On December 28, 1948 she was united in marriage to Rodney T. Cox at the Trinity Methodist Church in Lincoln and to this union five children were born: Linda, Ralph, Mason, Janice and Susan. The family made their home in Arapahoe, and several towns in Central Nebraska, Missouri and Texas before settling to Holdrege in 1970. Jinx focused on being a homemaker and raising their children. After the children were grown she returned to her career as a Registered Nurse at the Brewster Hospital and Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege.
On November 3, 1992 she was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney.
Jinx loved to read and visiting with her family and friends was her favorite time spent. She was an active member of the St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church and Daughters of the King, the Eastern Star and PEO Chapter H. In 1993 she began to make her home at Holdrege Memorial Homes, where she made many friendship bonds and received loving care for sixteen years.
She leaves to mourn her passing her two daughters: Linda Van Marter of Amarillo, Texas and Susan Fisher and her husband, Daryle of Shelton, Nebraska; two sons: Ralph Cox of Lincoln and Mason Cox and his wife, Jenny of Holdrege; eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Cathy Weber of Arapahoe; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Rodney, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice in infancy; a sister Ann Proctor and her husband, Norm; daughter-in-law, Judy Cox and brother-in-law, Mel Weber.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Jinx's wish to have her body donated to the Anatomical Board of Nebraska.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
