Funeral Services for Charles F. Lashley Sr. will be conducted from the North Park Assembly of God Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Alex Brodine, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Charles Frederick Lashley Sr., 83 years of age, of Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2007 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Charles was born March 31, 1924 at Mitchell, Nebraska, the eldest of four children of George Dewey and Edith Mae (Popkay) Lashley. Charles received his education at Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Following his education, he served his country in the United States Army during WW II from May 12, 1944 – May 11, 1946. Charles then returned home to Minatare, Nebraska, where he was employed as a mechanic.
On August 3, 1946 he was united in marriage to Nora Mae Howlett at Harrisburg, Nebraska and to this union eleven children were born: Gary, Roy, Floyd, Dale, Roger, Charles Jr., Linda, Nora Jean, Carl, Sharon and Walter. The family made their home in several communities throughout Wyoming and Nebraska. Charles engaged in putting up center pivots for several years for Bridgeport Implement at Bridgeport, Nebraska. Throughout the years, Charles also engaged in farming in western Nebraska, drove truck professionally and upon his retirement he was employed by J & B Trucking of Funk and Axtell.
He loved to tinker with old cars, collect toy tractors and John Deere memorabilia and later years enjoyed watching TV.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Nora of Bertrand; seven sons: Gary Lashley Sr. of Bertrand, Roy Lashley Sr. and his wife, Sarah of Osage, Wyoming, Floyd Lashley and his wife, Bev of Bertrand, Roger Lashley of Holdrege, Charles Lashley Jr. and his wife, Starr of Moorefield, Nebraska, Carl Lashley of Kearney, Nebraska and Walter Lashley of El Paso, Texas; three daughters: Linda Hood and her husband, William of Brighton, Colorado, Nora Jean Hodges and her husband, Frank Jr. of El Paso, Texas and Sharon K. Smith and her husband, Howard of Hobbs, New Mexico; 30 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Mae Ashcraft of Minatare, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dale Lashley Sr.; two brothers: Almon Lashley and Richard Lashley; grandson, Gary Lashley Jr.; great-granddaughter, Marisol; brother-in-law, Charles Ashcraft; and a step-granddaughter, Amy Jo Henson.
Mr. Lashley will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A memorial has been established in his memory.
