Funeral Services for Charles A. Melroy will be conducted on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Jim Bendorf officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege with Military Honors provided by the Martin Horn American Legion Post #66 of Holdrege in conjunction with the U.S. Army National Guard Military Honors Team.

Charles Alan Melroy, 65 years of age, of rural Kearney, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012 at his home. Charles was born September 6, 1947 in Holdrege, Nebraska, the eldest of four children born to Alan William and Betty Ione (Osborn) Melroy. He attended school until he was able to enlist in the Army.

Charles was inducted into the United States Army on November 2, 1964 and served in the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged on October 29, 1967. Charles was awarded the Purple Heart along with many other medals and honors.

Charles was blessed with two daughters, Kerry and Traci and a son, Charles.

Charles worked as a self employed contractor, owning his own business named, CAMel Construction.

Charles enjoyed playing BINGO, going fishing, going to the casino, and playing pickle cards. Charles loved his dogs and cats. Charles especially enjoyed the Fourth of July.

Besides his parents and grandparents, Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Clark, in August of 2009.

He is survived by his two daughters: Kerry Case of Alliance, Nebraska; Traci Thomas and her husband, Brian of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Charles Rieflin, Jr. and his wife, Valarie, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, his special friend, Susan Cleaver of Kearney; two brothers: Steven Melroy and his wife, Teresa of Minden, Nebraska, Rex Melroy and his wife, Debra of Kearney; 8 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
