Funeral Services for Charlotte L. Shively will be conducted on ¬¬Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Murray Jones, officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Charlotte Lily Shively, 91 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at her home in Holdrege. She was born March 9, 1918 in Holdrege, the youngest of two children born to Audobun and Lily (Berglof) Renquist. Charlotte received her education in Holdrege and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1936.
Following her education, Charlotte was united in marriage in 1937 to Lucius Hansen and to this union two sons were born: Rod and Jim. Lucius was killed in an automobile accident in 1939. On February 4, 1946 Charlotte was united in marriage to David Thomas Shively and to this union three children were born: Sue, Kathie and Craig. The family made their home in Holdrege. Later in years the family resided in Colorado prior to living in Scottsbluff for ten years. They returned to Holdrege were Charlotte was employed by Christian Homes for 19 years prior to her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, David in 1995.
Charlotte was a caring person who loved people. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed having fun. She loved Holdrege and would tell anyone she was a "full-blooded Swede." Charlotte loved to watch the "Wheel of Fortune" t.v. show, and loved to read the Holdrege Citizen newspaper. She also took joy in going for car rides around town and babysitting for her son's dog, Sadie.
Besides her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Murphy, one son, Rod Hansen and one brother, Earl Renquist.
Charlotte leaves to mourn her passing two sons: Jim Hansen and his wife, Carol of Lincoln, Nebraska and Craig Shively of Holdrege; one daughter: Kathie Schnell of Blue Hill, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Barbara Hansen of Hastings; twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
Charlotte will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Monday, May 25, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
