Graveside Memorial Services for Chester J. Dirks will be conducted from the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. with the Pastor Murray Jones officiating.

Chester James Dirks, 67 years of age, of Kenesaw, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege, Nebraska), passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska. He was born on May 1, 1943 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the youngest of nine children born to Herman and Helen Macey (Peters) Dirks.

Chester grew up and attended school in Lincoln, Nebraska. Following his education, Chester was inducted into the U.S. Navy Reserves on May 11, 1960 and served until his honorable discharge on February 2, 1961.

Chester enjoyed cooking, wolf memorabilia, playing cribbage and spending time with friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers: Wayne and Warren Schurlef, Harold Schurlef, Brad Dirks, and Tommy Lee Dirks during infancy.

He leaves to mourn his passing; two sisters: Velda May Crider of Florida, Ramona Pillard and her husband, Donald of Lincoln; one brother: John Dirks and his wife, Elizabeth of Grand Island, Nebraska; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation.
A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
