Funeral Services for Christen F. Peterson will be conducted from the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend David Sites, officiating. Interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska.

Christen F. Peterson, 91 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at Holdrege Memorial Homes. She was born March 4, 1915 on a farm near Loomis in Phelps County, Nebraska, the eldest of six children of Francis E. and Emma M. (Broman) Swanson. She received her education at Elwood and Holdrege.

Following her education she was united in marriage to Bernhard I. Peterson on February 16, 1938 in Kearney, Nebraska and to this union seven children were born: George LeRoy, Lawrence Frederick, Doris Eileen, Eleanor Frances, Donald Irving, Raymond Daniel and Kenneth Samuel. The family made their home on a farm east of Holdrege, where Christen focused her efforts on raising her children.

Christen enjoyed painting, quilting, cooking, baking cookies and loved a good conversation on the phone with family and friends.

She leaves to mourn her passing five sons: George Peterson and his wife, Linda of Funk, Nebraska, Lawrence Peterson of Holdrege, Donald Peterson and his wife, Christine of North Bend, Nebraska, Raymond Daniel Peterson and Kenneth Peterson and his wife, Kathy all of Holdrege; two daughters: Doris Waggoner and her husband, Don of Wichita, Kansas and Eleanor Dudley and her husband, Cecil of Burns, Tennessee; 18 grandchildren: Jeffery Peterson and his wife, Heather of Shelton, Nebraska, James Peterson and his wife, Kristine of Wahoo, Nebraska, Julie Peterson-Shea and her husband, Randy of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Tonja Peterson-Wendt and her husband, Jason of Ashland, Nebraska, Sasha Hahn and her husband, Matt of Loomis, Nebraska, Kyla Smith and her husband, Mike of Overland Park, Kansas, DiAnn Boehm and her husband, John of Ames, Nebraska, Dr. David Waggoner and his wife, Dr. Susan Chung-Waggoner of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, William Dudley of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, DeNece Dudley of Burns, Tennessee, Kristina Arturi and her husband, Neil of Dixon, Tennessee, Sheryl Guire and her husband, Jeffrey of Dixon, Gretchen Peterson of Brooklyn, New York, Stephanie Peterson of Chicago, Illinois, Brook Peterson of Lincoln, Kindra Hibbard and her husband, Dustin of Lewiston, Idaho, Staff Sgt. Kyle Peterson of Pineville, North Carolina and Kelly Peterson and his wife, Courtnee of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Andrew J. Swanson and his wife, Joyce of Nicoma Park, Oklahoma; three sisters: Clara Cooper of Escondido, California, Annette Burgess of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Edith Hecht of Hastings, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Faye Peterson of Holdrege and brother-in-law, Richard Peterson of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernhard in 2000; her parents; daughter-in-law, Virginia Peterson and one brother, Bror "Swede" Swanson and his wife, Fern.

Mrs. Peterson will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Thursday, October 26, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in her memory.
