A memorial service for Clyde E. Swanson will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Pastor Kenton Birtell officiating. A private family inurnment will be held prior to the service at the Prairie Home Cemetery.
Clyde Edward Swanson, 78 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Florence Home in Omaha, Nebraska following a brief illness. Clyde was born on July 19, 1945, in Holdrege, the eldest of five children born to Francis Edward and Betty Lou (Hubbard) Swanson. He attended Holdrege Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1964. He then pursued higher education at Kearney State College, graduating in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in Education.
In 1970, Clyde began his career at Becton Dickinson, retiring in 2000. During retirement, he farmed part-time with his brother, Bruce. After the death of his father, Clyde helped care for his mother.
He enjoyed older cars and trucks, and attending classic car shows. The car show during Swedish Days was one of his favorite events! Clyde would often be seen working in his yard and had a small flower and vegetable garden. He was a lifelong member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Swanson; sister, Linda Lou Swanson at birth; and brother-in-law, Dave Boyer.
He leaves to celebrate his life two sisters: Janice Erickson and her husband, Ed of Holdrege; and Kathy Boyer of Kansas City, Missouri; sister-in-law, Alice Ann Swanson of Holdrege; 13 nieces and nephews: Lisa, Beth, Ann, Amy, Darrin, Maria, Kelly, Greg, Kara, Jodi, Ellie, Casey and Hannah; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and many friends.
There will be no visitation or memorial book signing. The family is honoring Clyde's wish for cremation.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
