A Memorial Service for Curtis J. Meester will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Curtis John Meester, 81 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. Curtis was born in Yuma, Colorado, on June 14, 1940, the younger of two children, born to Art and Mary (Paris) Meester. He received his education from Hastings Public Schools and graduated from Hastings High School, with the class of 1959. He pursued higher education from Milford Community College, studying Auto Mechanics.
In 1961, Curtis was united in marriage to Judith R. Johnson in Hastings and to this union three daughters were born: Corinne, Jenay, and Chris. The family made their home in Holdrege.
Curtis began working at Central Nebraska Public Power District in Holdrege and retired in 2002, following 35 year career. After retirement, they moved to Kenesaw and enjoyed their home near the Platter River. In 2014, the couple moved back to Holdrege to be closer to their daughters.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and together they enjoyed camping and fishing at Jeffery Lake near Brady, Nebraska. Curtis also enjoyed cheering on the Huskers! Curtis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, the United Methodist Church in Roseland, Nebraska, and was a member of a card club in the Kenesaw church.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marlene Haskins and her husband, Bill; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Corky and Phyllis Sober of Kenesaw, Nebraska.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Meester of Holdrege; her three daughters: Corinne Gebel and her husband, Gary of Wilcox, Nebraska; Jenay Andrijeski and her husband, Mike of Oxford, Nebraska; and Chris Layton and her husband, Jeff of Oxford; five grandchildren: Ashley Layton; Steven Andrijeski; Brandon Gebel; Curtis Layton; and Emily Layton; along with other relatives and friends.
There will be no memorial book signing, visitation, or viewing. The family has chosen cremation.
A memorial has been established in Curtis' honor, and kindly suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege.
