Funeral Services for D. Lourie Johnson will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dale Lambert, officiating. Interment will be held in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Dorthy "Lourie" Johnson, 78 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard, Nebraska. She was born April 5, 1932 in McCook, Nebraska, the eldest of three children born to McKinley Ernest and Virginia Mae (Gilbert) Stay.
Lourie grew up in Marion, Nebraska and graduated from Danbury High School with the class of 1950. She enlisted in the United States Army and served as a company clerk from February 23, 1951 until her honorable discharge on March 13, 1952. She then worked for the Bureau of Reclamation Project Office in Indianola and McCook, Nebraska.
On September 12, 1954, Lourie was united in marriage to Charles E. Johnson of Holdrege. Their home was blessed with three children: James, Janis and Jeanne.
Lourie received her LPN in 1975 from the Omaha Metro Community College in Omaha, Nebraska and her RN in 1979 from the University Medical Center in Omaha, graduating summa cum laude. She was employed with the Omaha Methodist Hospital, Home Health in Prineville, Oregon and the Nursing Home in Hartington, Nebraska.
She enjoyed music, sewing, needlework, painting and her participation in Eastern Star, the Holdrege Area Genealogy Club and the Heartland Dancers.
Besides her parents, Lourie was preceded in death by her brother, Gilbert M. Stay and her sister, V. Patricia Farnstrom.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are her children: James G. Johnson and his wife, Cheryl of Phoenix, Arizona, Janis Johnson and her husband, Wayne of Clay Center, Nebraska, Jeanne Zebert of Holdrege; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and her former husband, and friend, Charles E. Johnson of Holdrege.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 7, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in her memory and kindly suggested to the Holdrege Area Genealogy Club.
