A Joint Graveside Service and Inurnment for Dale Franzen and Shirle (Minor) Franzen will be held at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Grand Island, Nebraska, on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Dale Duane Franzen, 93 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. Dale was born on the family farm in Wayne County, Nebraska, on September 2, 1936, the only son born to August H. and Emma A. (Dorman) Franzen. He lived and received his education, and graduated with the Carroll High School, class of 1950.
Dale enlisted into the United States Army on January 21, 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska. He served during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Dale was honorably discharged on December 23, 1954, and then served in the Army Reserves.
On March 18, 1956, Dale was united in marriage to Shirle A. Minor at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wayne. The couple lived in the Wayne area, until moving to Holdrege in 1975. They were blessed with three daughters: Sharon, Tami, and Pam. Together the family enjoyed gardening and traveling. Dale was very particular about his lawn care.
Dale worked for Lloyd Waller Feedlot in Holdrege for 27 years. He was a member the Bethel Lutheran Church.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Glenn and Ruth (McTavish) Minor; his wife, Shirle on March 9, 2010; two sons-in-law: Doyle Lindsay in January 2006; and Danny Garner in September 2025; his daughter, Pamela Meunier in November 2025; brother-in-law, Terry Minor; and sister-in-law, Sandee Callaghan.
He leaves to celebrate his life: his two daughters: Sharon Lindsay of Huntley, Nebraska; and Tami Garner of Grand Island, Nebraska; a son-in-law, Tom Meunier of Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandchildren: Daniel Meunier, Allison Meunier, Morgan (Aaron) Armstrong, and Judd (Baylee) Garner; three great-grandchildren: Annika, Olivia, and Elaina Armstrong; a brother-in-law: Patrick Callaghan of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; and a sister-in-law, Kay Minor of South Sioux City, Nebraska; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will not be a visitation or viewing. The family is honoring his wish for cremation.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for future designation.
