Daniel Clinton "Dan" Imel, 75 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on September 17, 2024, at the CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney. Dan was born in Lakin, Kansas on April 23, 1949, the second of three boys, born to Clinton and Maudie (McClure) Imel. He received his education and graduated from Holdrege Public School, with the class of 1967. Dan was on the 1967 state basketball team that was later inducted into the Nebraska Athletic Hall of Fame and also participated in football and track. On November 12, 1971, Dan was united in marriage to Renae Hagood at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege. This union was blessed with two daughters: Breck and Marci. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Dan and his brother, Kyle, purchased Graphic Arts Shop, Inc., a design and commercial printing business from Margaret and the late Ed O'Shea in 1982. Dan and Kyle owned and operated the business until their retirement in 2022, when they sold it to Dustin and Aubri Nantkes, who have continued the legacy of Graphic Arts Shop, Inc.
Dan followed his girls in all their activities and helped coach with Big Ed. He has continued to follow his grandsons to as many of their activities as he could and would continue to stream their activities even after he became ill.
In his younger years, Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping and as he got older he started golfing and was a board member and past president of the Board of the Holdrege Country Club.
He was a member of the Holdrege Rotary, the Eagles Club, and the Holdrege Area Chamber of Commerce.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; his aunt and uncle, Margaret and Edward O'Shea; and brother, Roger Imel; mother-in-law, Phyllis Hagood; father-in-law, Richard Hagood; sister-in-law, Karen Hagood; and one grandson, Calvin Curtis.
Dan leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Renae Imel of Holdrege; two daughters: Breck Imel of Glendale, Arizona; and Marci Imel and her husband, Brett Curtis of Ashland, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Liam Curtis; Conley Thies; Easton Thies of which he is lovingly referred to as Papi; one brother, Kyle Imel and his wife, Linda of Holdrege; three nieces: Kelsie O'Brien and her husband, Aaron of Omaha, Nebraska; Kim Hemmer and her husband, Jake of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Tamela Winfrey and her husband, Troy; sister-in-law: Sandra Orr and her husband, Boyd; and one nephew, Mark Johnsen; along with a host of great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
