Daniel David Rosenberry, 98 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2008 at his granddaughter's residence in Palm Bay, Florida. Daniel was born January 1, 1910 on a farm near Clarkson, Nebraska, the fifth of seven children of John Frank and Lena (Hoff) Rosenberry. He received his education from rural school District #42 in Colfax County, Nebraska.
Following his education, he worked as a farmhand and then started as a railroad carpenter repairing railroads, bridges and train depots and worked his way from Nebraska out to California to work for Barnes Contractors of Santo Rose, California in the occupation of "Steel Tying". He returned to Omaha, Nebraska in 1942 and enlisted in the United States Navy during WW II, serving his country from April 28, 1942 until his honorable discharge on October 9, 1945. While serving his time in the Navy, he worked as a "Metalsmith" and helped run The Liberty boat taking sailors to and from the naval ship to the naval ports on liberty. After his naval service, Daniel began his lifelong work in the Construction Industry building forms for various concrete construction jobs and helped build a carpenter platform for the McCook Dam. He met Helen Marie Marquardt in Trenton, Nebraska and they were united in marriage on May 10, 1957 at Holdrege. They resided in McCook, Nebraska, Almena, Kansas and Holbrook, Nebraska. In 1965, Daniel and Helen made their home in Holdrege, where Daniel worked at Lien's Ready-Mix and was a self-employed carpenter until his retirement. On July 17, 1998 his wife, Helen, preceded him in death. Later in years, Daniel enjoyed spending winters in Palm Bay, Florida.
