Graveside Services for Darlene W. (Carlson) Swanson will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Immanuel Cemetery, north of Bertrand, Nebraska with Reverend Cathi Braasch, officiating. A time for fellowship and lunch will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bertrand, Nebraska, following the committal.
Additional services for Darlene will be conducted on May 8, 2008 in Fort Collins, Colorado and May 12, 2008 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Darlene Marie (Carlson) Swanson, 82, passed away, Saturday, May 3, 2008 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Darlene was born August 8, 1925 in Boone, Iowa to Arvid W. and Edith Marie (Peterson) Carlson. After high school, she graduated with her BA from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and undertook advanced studies in child development at the University of Chicago. On August 8, 1948, Darlene was united in marriage to Reuben T. Swanson in Boone, Iowa. During their nearly sixty years together they lived in West Hempstead, New York, Omaha, Nebraska, Chatham, New Jersey, and again in Omaha until moving to Fort Collins in 2006. She was a loving, devoted, and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Darlene and Reuben served the Lord together and she was able to share her faith through art, music and devotionals. Darlene served as a board member of Augustana College Alumni Association, Bethphage Great Britain/Mosaic, the Lutheran Summer Music Program, and the Omaha Symphony.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Reuben T. Swanson of Fort Collins, CO; two children: Conrad T. Swanson and wife, Cheryl of Wellington, CO; and Joyce Marie Jobson and husband, Peter of Fort Collins; four grandchildren: Nathan T. and Anna Marie Swanson; and Daniel P. and Emma Marie Jobson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert W. Carlson.
