Celebration of Life Service for Darold E. Tagge will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Kenton Birtell officiating. For the safety of all attendees, face coverings will be required.
A private family interment will be held in the Adullam Lutheran Cemetery in rural Phelps County, Nebraska following the services.
Due to health concerns, regarding the COVID-19 pandemic; current CDC and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services guidelines for Faith-Based Services will be followed. The Tagge family sincerely encourages each person to make their decision whether to attend the service based on the best interest of your health, and that of your community. Darold Eugene Tagge, 80 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020, at his home in Holdrege surrounded by his family. Darold was born on September 4, 1940, in Grand Island, Nebraska, the younger of two sons to Otto & Emma (Claussen) Tagge. He was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Darold grew up on a farm east of Cairo, Nebraska. He attended grade school at District #54 near Abbot, Nebraska. He then began his high school career in Cairo, until transferring to Grand Island High School, where he graduated with the class of 1958. Darold then pursued higher education from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Hastings College, and Colorado State University.
On July 30, 1983, Darold was united in marriage to Helen (Gardine) Stubbendieck at the Sheridan Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Beginning in 1974, Darold owned and operated his own surveying/engineering business in Holdrege, which he founded as Tagge Engineering Consultants (TEC). He also had offices in Valentine and Grand Island, Nebraska. He retired in 2008. Throughout the years, Darold also formed an engineering business partnership with Don Taranto and Larry Stanton in Ft. Collins, Colorado from 1976-1984, called Taranto-Stanton-Tagge Engineering.
Darold was active in Profession and Community serving in many capacities. He was a member of the Professional Land Surveyors Board of Examiners for fifteen years. Darold served twenty-six years on the Nebraska Board of Public Roads Classifications and Standards (NBCS) for the State of Nebraska.
He served as chairman of the building committee for Phelps Memorial Health Center's new hospital. Darold served fifteen years on the Phelps Memorial Health Center Board of Directors; was past president of the church council at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He was a church Elder for fifteen years, and also taught Sunday school for several years. Currently, he was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Darold was proud of the fact that he was Chairman of the Holdrege Chamber Commerce Board for five years. Darold and Helen also served as the Phelps County election Chairmen for Governor Mike Johanns. During his younger years, he enjoyed being a volunteer fireman for Bertrand.
He also farmed for twelve years and helped his father-in-law, Roy, farm for several years. When he was a member of the Rotary, Darold and Helen hosted three exchange students: Beto from Brazil; Graham from South Africa; and Jenny from Sweden.
Darold enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, dogs, snowmobiling, husker football, eating chocolate ice cream and attending his grandchildren's activities.
Darold was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Roy and Hildur Gardine; and a nephew, David Tagge.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Helen Tagge of Holdrege; step-daughter, Lisa Ziebarth and her husband, James of rural Wilcox, Nebraska; step-son, Todd Stubbendieck and his wife, Leslie of Omaha, Nebraska; two children from his first marriage: Laurie and Kim and their families; his six grandchildren: Tyler Ziebarth and his wife, Shanna; Jillian Ziebarth; Katelyn Ziebarth and her special friend, Jordan Honas; Alec Ziebarth; Cash Stubbendieck; and Truman Stubbendieck; three great-grandchildren: Jackson, Ella and Greyson Ziebarth; his brother, Marvin Tagge and his wife, Joann of Grand Island, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives; and friends.
Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege. Face coverings will be required.
A memorial has been established in Darold's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
