Funeral Services for Darrell W. Talbert will be conducted from the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Heather Shoup, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Darrell W. Talbert, 80 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Darrell was born May 10, 1926 at Holdrege, the eldest of two sons of Vern and Martha (Bergstrom) Talbert. The family made their home on a farm east of Atlanta, Nebraska. He received his primary education at Atlanta and then graduated from Mascot High School with the class of 1943.

Following his education, Darrell was employed by the Burlington-Northern Railroad. On August 25, 1945, he was united in marriage to Betty Darlene Godfrey at Norton, Kansas and the couple was blessed with two children: Connie Jean and Ronald James. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Darrell was employed by Grangers until the company relocated to Lincoln. Darrell then worked for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Co. at Holdrege until his retirement.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, where he enjoyed the friendship bonds formed preparing the newsletter. Tending to his yard and home was his hobby.

Darrell leaves to mourn his passing, one son, Ron Talbert of Lincoln, Nebraska; one grandson, Cole Talbert of Lincoln; sisters-in-law: Dixie Nonamaker and her husband, Dale of Osborn, Kansas, Helen Townsend and her husband, Duane of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Donna Fae VanKooten of Long Island, Kansas, Eileen Gebhard and her husband, Charles of Phillipsburg, Kansas and Ila George and her husband, Eldon of Lebanon, Kansas and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends including his friend, Marilyn Anderson of Holdrege who Darrell had three or four years of laughter with. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 2001; his parents; daughter, Connie Jean in infancy; brother, Wayne Talbert and two brothers-in-law: Robert Godfrey and Duane VanKooten.

Mr. Talbert will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Sunday, November 26, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in his memory to the Phelps County Food Pantry.
