Graveside Services and Interment for Daryl D. "Shad" Killough will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Red Cloud Cemetery at Red Cloud, Nebraska with Mr. Bill Weaver officiating.

Daryl Dean Killough, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Beaver City, Nebraska) passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Daryl was born November 10, 1927 at Red Cloud, the third of seven children born to Harlan T. and Bertha Margaret (Dalton) Killough. Daryl grew up in Red Cloud and received his education from Red Cloud Public Schools, graduating from Red Cloud High School with the class of 1946. He and six other boys from the area then served their country in the United States Army in Yokohama, Japan as part of the Signal Corps until his honorable discharge November 7, 1947.

On August 28, 1948 he was united in marriage to Faye C. Corbett in Red Cloud and to this union three children were born: Margaret, Brad and Kaye. He began his newspaper career with the Commercial Advertiser in Red Cloud. In 1956 they moved to Broken Bow, where Daryl was employed by the Custer County Chief. Then in 1965 the family moved to Beaver City, and Daryl purchased the Beaver City Times Tribune. He continued his longtime career as the owner/operator and newspaper publisher in Beaver City until his retirement in 1988, following 23 years of service.

Following retirement, Daryl and Faye enjoyed spending winters in Yuma, Arizona for fifteen years. On February 18, 2003 he was preceded in death by his wife, Faye.

Daryl's hobbies were golfing, hunting and fishing with the kids and he bowled on a Senior League in Holdrege. He was a member of the Methodist faith throughout the years.

Besides his wife, Faye; he was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Margaret "Meg" Hunt; great-granddaughter, Seeley Hunt; brother, Elmer Killough and his wife, Opal; brothers-in-law: Bill Huslig, John Saathoff and Maurice Corbett and his wife, Mary.

Daryl leaves to mourn his passing; his son, Brad Killough and his wife, Dana of Holdrege; daughter, Kaye Frederick and her husband, Roger of Richmond, Missouri; son-in-law, Allen Hunt of Holdrege; nine grandchildren: Stacie Hunt, Jennifer Scott and her husband, Justin, Kevin Hunt and his wife, Lori, Dan Killough and his wife, Mysti, Nick Killough and his wife, Anna, Kristin Majerus and her husband, Taylor, Joe Frederick, Jeremy Frederick and his wife, Lauren, and Zach Frederick; eight great-grandchildren: Selah, Asher and Tilon Scott, Olivia, Ethan, and Reece Hunt, Kahlia Killough, and Madelyn Frederick; five sisters: Ilene Huslig of Overland Park, Kansas, Roberta Giger and her husband, Ralph of Stewartville, Minnesota, Wanda Thompson and her husband, Bill of Superior, Nebraska, Norma Saathoff of Hastings, Nebraska, and Sharon Schmidt and her husband, Leo of Franklin, Nebraska; two brothers-in-law: Edwin Corbett of Fremont, Nebraska and Dwight Corbett of Salina, Kansas and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Daryl's honor and kindly suggested to the Phelps Memorial Health Center Service League.
