David W Durnell

Celebration of Life Memorial Graveside for David W. Durnell will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Dwight Ganzel officiating.

David Walter Durnell, 77 years of age, of Denver, Colorado, died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Rose Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado.  David was born October 3, 1941 in Fremont, Nebraska, the only child of Dewain O. and Gladys K. (Winquest) Durnell.

David attended school at York, Nebraska, through his first 3 years of high school.  He graduated from the Axtell High School in Axtell, Nebraska, with the class of 1959. He then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kearney State College in 1963, and later from University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1967, with a Master of Science degree in Education.  He taught music at the Stanton, Nebraska Public Schools from 1963-64.  He then moved to Denver, where he worked at the Ralph Lauren men's store in the Cherry Creek Mall, until he retired.

David spent many of his early years at the family farm at Lakota, North Dakota.

David enjoyed music all his life, particularly classical music.  A chorale group of which he was a member had the benefit of his singing talents.  He also enjoyed drawing portraits of relatives and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by two first cousins; a number of second cousins; and friends.

There will be no visitation.  The family has honored his wish for cremation.

Since David was an avid supporter of public radio, memorials in his name are suggested to NPR; NET Nebraska; or the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra.
