David Thomas Lawrence, 54 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center following a courageous battle with leukemia. Dave was born December 17, 1953 at Mather AFB in Sacramento, California, the second of four children born to Gregory G. and Francis J. (Beams) Lawrence. Being a son of an Air Force Officer, Dave received his education from various schools throughout the United States, graduating from Douglas County High School at Castle Rock, Colorado with the class of 1972. He then pursued higher education at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley, where he received his Bachelors Degree in Business.

Following his education, Dave was involved in restaurant management in Denver, Colorado and later became an independent land man in the oil and gas industry. Through his business travels, Dave was relocated to Nebraska where he met his wife, Vickie A. Streff of Holdrege. The couple were united in marriage on October 8, 1982 at Holdrege. Dave adopted the boys as his own and in 1985, they were additionally blessed with the birth of their daughter, Jessica. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Dave was employed by S & W Auto Parts, where he continued to be involved until his failing health.

Dave was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church and active member of the Knights of Columbus. When the kids were young, Dave enjoyed coaching their activities and was a Cub Scout Leader. He was an avid gardener, sports enthusiast and loved to play racquetball at the YMCA. With his health declining this past year, the opportunity to attend the World Series baseball game in Denver with his wife, Vickie and brother, Gary was a highlight of his year.
