A time of fellowship and remembrance for David G. Payne will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Senior Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

David Gaiel Payne, 64 years of age, of Hastings, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege), passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017 at his home in Hastings. David was born September 9, 1952 at Alma, Nebraska, the third of seven children born to Merle "Flap" and Edna "Patty" (Andres) Payne. He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1970. During his high school years, Dave lettered in football, wrestling, and also enjoyed American Legion Baseball. He then pursued higher education from McCook Community College. While in college, Dave was recruited into the United States Navy and served his country from February 10, 1972 until his honorable discharge on February 6, 1976.

After his service, Dave returned home to Holdrege, where he was employed by Perry Lumber.

On June 1, 1982, he was united in marriage to Brenda Dietz, and to this union one daughter was born, Rachel. The family made their home in Holdrege, until he moved to Hastings in 1991.

In later years, Dave enjoyed playing church league and slow-pitch softball and was an avid Husker fan.

Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Edna "Patty" Payne; infant brother, Merle David Payne; and his grandparents.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his daughter, Rachel Payne of Kenesaw, Nebraska; twin grandchildren: Westyn and Tenley Prelle also of Kenesaw; his father, Merle "Flap" Payne of Holdrege; siblings: Ken Payne and his wife, Ella of Lincoln, Peggy Perry and her husband, Brad of Holdrege, Pam Payne of Eagle, Colorado, Patsy Jones and her husband, Tom of McCook, Nebraska, John Payne and his wife, Lori of Papillion; two aunts: Carolyn Reddish of Holdrege and Karry Smith and her husband, Ken of Aurora, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in David's honor and will be designated at a later date.
