Celebration of Life Services for David C. Rogers will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
David Cash Rogers, 54 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away tragically on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at his residence in Holdrege. David was born June 1, 1964 in Larned, Kansas, the fourth of five children born to LeRoy W. and Barbara A. (Kimberly) Rogers. The family made their home in Harlan County, Nebraska until moving to Holdrege in 1977. David received his education from Holdrege Public Schools. Affectionately known by his friends as Squig, he easily made friends, and often could be found helping others.
In 1986, David met Robin Cunningham, and a year later the couple were blessed with their daughter, Stephanie. Although the couple never married they remained friends, and had a special bond together with their daughter.
David could be described as a "jack-of-all-trades". In early years, he worked as a roofer in the Holdrege area. David then relocated to Norfolk, Nebraska, where he was employed as a traveling tool salesman. His personality served him well as a salesman. Three years ago, David moved to Hastings, Nebraska, where he worked in detailing vehicles for Jerry Spady GMC-Cadillac. David experienced nerve damage due to an accidental fall, as well as a traumatic brain injury which caused dementia. After being hospitalized for a year, he began to make his home in Wilcox, Nebraska. This past year, David resided at Sunrise View Apartments, where he enjoyed many friendship bonds.
David enjoyed collecting model cars, watching professional wrestling on TV, and most of all loved the time spent with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Rogers in 2009; a niece, Barbara Mae Rogers; and uncles: DeWayne, Melvin, Ronnie, and Robert Kimberly; and Harmon Barnes.
David leaves to celebrate his life; his daughters: Stephanie Miller and her husband, Delroy Sheavon Miller of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; and Angela Gardner-Sheaer and her husband, Kelci Sheaer of Fairbury, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Rorian, Lillyan, and Carson Crouch; his father, LeRoy Rogers of Minden, Nebraska; sisters: Rosemary Thompson and her husband, Rick of Solon Springs, Wisconsin; Debbie Wilson of Oxford, Nebraska; and Connie Rogers of Hastings; brother, William "Willie" Rogers and his wife, Kathy of Holdrege; uncle, Larry Kimberly and his wife, Arleta of Holdrege; aunt, Julie (Rogers) Barnes of Wilcox; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring his wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in David's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
