Celebration of Life Service for Dean H. Asp will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Homes Care Community Chapel in Holdrege, Nebraska with Chaplain DeWane Dow and Pastor Daren Popple officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the United States Army Funeral Honors Team at the conclusion of the service at the chapel.  The family is honoring Dean's wish for his body to be donated to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska.  A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Dean Hess Asp, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege.  Dean's parents:  Everett E. and Esther M. (Jenkins) Asp were on their way back home to Holdrege from Canada, where his grandparents homesteaded land.  On the trip home his mother went into labor and they had to make a stop at Pilger, Nebraska, where Dean was born on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1931.  He was the second of four children who were raised in Holdrege.  Dean received his education from Holdrege Public Schools.

Following his education, Dean began a lifelong career working with cars.  He began working at Linder Motors as a mechanic until 1963, and then worked at Strong Brother's Chevrolet.  Dean then accepted a position at the Robinson Buick Garage in Holdrege until his retirement in 1995.

Dean also served his country in the Army National Guards for three terms from April 24, 1950 until his honorable discharge on April 25, 1959.

On September 24, 1960, Dean was united in marriage to Doris Jean Lewis in Holdrege.  The couple were blessed with two daughters:  Linda and Nancy, and later adopted their son, Mike.  In 2013, he and Doris began to make their home at the Christian Homes Care Community.

Dean kept busy making wood toys; his best sellers were his Dutch Windmills.  He also enjoyed taking care of his lawn; and loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles to rally's in Colorado and South Dakota in his younger years.

Dean was a member of First United Methodist Church in Holdrege.

Besides his parents; Dean was preceded in death by one brother, Wilson Asp and his two spouses.

Dean leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Doris of 58 years of Holdrege; his three children:  Linda Clark and her husband, Steve of Holdrege; Nancy Rogers of Kearney, Nebraska; and Mike Asp and his wife, Glenda of Holdrege; nine grandchildren:  Chris Lovegrove and his wife, Britni; Justin Asp and his wife, Kay; Chris McEntee and his fiancé, Kourtney; Lane Asp; Matt Rogers; Levi Asp; Sean Robinson; Brittany Rumbeck and her husband, Brent; and Brooke Robinson;  six great-grandchildren; two sisters:  Geraldine Scheele of Oneonta, New York; and Beverly Dierberger and her husband, Don of Garland, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Donald Lewis; and sister-in-law, Shirley Mae Lewis both of Central City, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial Book Signing will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Dean's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
