Memorial Services for Dean D. McClymont will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, January 15, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Buck Linton-Hendrick, officiating. Private Family Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege prior to the Memorial Service.
Dean DeWitt McClymont, 85 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Dean was born November 9, 1921 on the family farm south of Loomis in Phelps County, Nebraska, one of four children of Paul DeWitt and Lucy (Cobb) McClymont. Dean received his education at Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1939. He then pursued higher education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Following his education, Dean was employed as a draftsman for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Washington and Wichita, Kansas and later for Vega Aircraft in California. Dean then served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corps during WW II. While in the service, Dean was a Navigator on a B-29 based on Tinian in the Mariana Islands. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. Following the war, Dean engaged in farming and raised Hereford Cattle south of Loomis.
On February 2, 1946 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Winquest at Holdrege and to this union four children were born: Jane, Sally, John and Steven. The family made their home on the farm south of Loomis until Dean retired in 1990 at which time the couple moved into Holdrege.
Dean was a 60-year member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served on numerous committees, he served on the Loomis School Board for 17 years, served on the board of directors of the Loomis Co-op Grain Co., was a past board member of the Phelps County Historical Society and also served on the board of the Phelps Memorial Hospital Association. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion, a past member of the Centennial Kiwanis Club and the B.P.O.E. Elks Club. Following retirement, Dean enjoyed working with his horses as long as his health permitted and was an avid reader. Dean also volunteered delivering Meals-On-Wheels, helped with the Immunization Clinic and also with Bingo at Christian Homes. He enjoyed Air Force Reunions, visiting with his B-29 crewmates and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Phyllis of Holdrege; two daughters: Jane Teply and her husband, Darrell of Kearney, Nebraska and Sally Mueller and her husband, Gary of Holdrege; two sons: John McClymont and his wife, Deborah of Norton, Kansas and Steve McClymont and his wife, Claire of Evergreen, Colorado; 13 grandchildren: C.J. Teply and his wife, Jennifer of Gunnison, Colorado, Sarah Teply of Omaha, Nebraska, Taylor Teply of Kearney, Matt Mueller and his wife, Kara of Holdrege,Tyler Mueller of Holdrege, Grant McClymont of Norton, Scott Westbrook and his wife, Candi of Justin, Texas, Kirk Westbrook and his wife, Laura of Canadian, Texas, Brian McClymont and C.J. McClymont of Largo, Florida, Sarah Daye and her husband, Andy of Santa Cruz, California, Jenelle Kuhlman and her husband, Blair of Denver, Colorado and Jamin Winans and his wife, Kiowa of Denver; four great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Adri McClymont of Holdrege and Phyllis Johnson and her husband, Rod of Lincoln; four nieces, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Warren McClymont and a brother and sister in infancy.
Mr. McClymont will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Sunday, January 14, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
