Dean A Shubert

Celebration of Life Service will be held for Dean A. Shubert on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Elm Creek High School Gymnasium in Elm Creek, Nebraska with Father Scott Harter officiating.  Interment will be held in the Elm Creek Cemetery.

Dean Arthur Shubert, 72 years of age, of Elm Creek, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska.

Dean was born January 9, 1945 on the family farm north of Elm Creek, the fourth of five children of Clarence and Verna (Cox) Shubert. He received his education from country schools and then graduated from Elm Creek Public School with the class of 1963.

On November 13, 1964, Dean was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Earl at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elm Creek. To this union came four children: Kyla, Troy, Scott and Kimberly. In his early adult years, Dean was employed with Western Alfalfa. He was then employed at Wink Implement, before purchasing the Gambles Store on Front Street in Elm Creek.

Dean was instrumental in starting the Elm Creek Jaycees Chapter, serving as president for three years. While in this chapter of his life, he was also very active on the Elm Creek Fire Department for 11 years.

During the seven years owning the Gambles Store, Dean started his plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning business, which became Shubert Electric and Plumbing in 1973. In 1989, Dean and Phyllis changed the name to Circle S Plumbing and Well Service. As farming was always his passion, Dean started Buysm Sod in 1994. Besides teaching his four children to be hard workers, Dean employed his grandchildren and many area teenagers with his sod business.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Shubert; sister, Sharon (Shubert) Smith; and sister-in-law, Janie (Bryant) Shubert.

Dean is survived by his wife, Phyllis of 52 years; four children:  Kyla Martin and her husband, Tim of Amherst, Nebraska; Troy Shubert and Amy Hall of Phillips, Nebraska; Scott Shubert and his wife, DeAnn of Elm Creek; and Kimberly Ehnes and her husband, Shawn of Julesburg, Colorado; two brothers: Kenneth Shubert and his wife, Helen of Kearney, Nebraska, Jack Shubert of Elm Creek; brother-in-law, Ron Smith of Grand Island, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Kathleen Harms and her husband, Robert of Kearney; Dean's grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy: 16 grandchildren: Sadie Martin and fiancé, Kyle Wright, Ryan Martin and his wife, Austin, and Sydney and Sage Martin, Bailey Shubert and fiancé, Caleb Houdek and Paige Shubert, Madison and Avery Hall, Brooke and Tyrell Jamison, Brittani, Brett, Braden and Brecken Shubert, and Satara, Kierra and Keyana Ehnes; two great-grandchildren: Peri Martin and Karver Jamison; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elm Creek.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Dean's honor and kindly suggested to the Elm Creek Fire and Rescue.
