Memorial Services for Delbert W. Moore will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at the Christian Homes Chapel in Holdrege, Nebraska with Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating. Private inurnment will be held prior to services at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege with Military Honors provided by the Martin-Horn American Legion Post #66 in conjunction with the United States Navy Military Honors Team.
Delbert Wayne Moore, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. He was born March 3, 1927 in Holdrege, the youngest of six children born to Roy Ulysses and Ethel Mae (Taylor) Moore. He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools until his 16th birthday, when he left school to work on the farm for his brother, Bob. He also drove truck and worked for the Bruce & McGill Service Station in Holdrege.
On December 22, 1944, at 17 years old, Delbert joined the United States Navy and served during World War II, on the USS War Hawk. On August 2, 1946 he was honorably discharged.
On August 13, 1950, Delbert was united in marriage to Detta Berry in Holdrege. To this union three children were born: David, Denise and Doug. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Delbert worked as a Lineman for the REA.
On May 16, 1968, he was united in marriage to Joan (Dike) Smith. Two families were united as one with her children: Dan, Ron and Jill. Delbert retired in 1989 as supervisor of Southern Nebraska Rural Public Power at the Holdrege office. Delbert and Joan moved to Alma, Nebraska in 1990.
Delbert enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing and bowling. He won many bowling trophies, even at the national level. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. (ELKS), serving as a past Exulted Ruler.
Survivors include; his children: Doug Moore and his wife, Patty of Grand Island, Nebraska, Denise Geer and her husband, Burt of Federal Way, Washington, Linda Dilley and her husband, Merlin of Harvard, Nebraska, Ronald Smith and his wife, Pam of Holdrege, Dan Smith and his wife, Janice of Houston, Texas and Jill Jones and her husband, Mike of Moscow, Idaho; daughter-in-law, Sandy (Moore) Janson of Kearney, Nebraska; grandchildren: Amy Rassman and her husband, Tom of Omaha, Nebraska, Jason Geer of Federal Way, Rikki Marohl and her husband, Jason of Des Moines, Washington, Michael Moore of Federal Way, Michelle Moore of Meade, Nebraska, Morgan Moore of Frederick, Maryland, Jeff Pollan of Hanover, Kansas, Jerry Smith and his wife, Terry of Holdrege, Jeff Smith of Doraville, Georgia, Melanie Bell and her husband, David of Frederick, Maryland, Steven Smith of Houston, Shawan Foster of Idaho and Tallaha Foster of Idaho; great-grandchildren: Amber, Zac and Oliver Marohl, Amber, Khristian, Isabella and Dylan Parkins, Kristen Kruse and her husband, Dusty, Alex Pollan, Karlyn, Calvin, Carson, Callen, and Karmyn Smith, Bradleigh and Ryen Bell and Keatyn Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by; his wife, Joan and his son, David; and sisters: Maggie Erickson and her husband, Wallace, Irene and her husbands, LeRoy Barber and Vincent Headberg, Jeanie Anderson and her husband, Kenny Anderson; brothers: Robert Moore and his wives, Helen and Francis, Newton Moore and his wives, Gertrude and Marie.
There will be no visitation. The family is honoring Delbert's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Delbert's honor and will be designated at a later date.
