Memorial Services for Della M. Heathers will be held on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Alma United Methodist Church in Alma, Nebraska with Pastor Jim Bendorf officiating. Private burial will take place prior to the service at the Bainbridge Cemetery near Huntley, Nebraska.
Della Mae Heathers, 87 years of age of Hastings, Nebraska (formerly of Alma) died on Monday, January 21, 2019, at Homestead Assisted Living in Hastings. Della was born on November 10, 1931 in Holdrege, Nebraska, the second of five children born to Herbert August and Esther Ann (Schepler) Dunse. She was baptized as an infant and she was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox, Nebraska, in 1946. Della received her primary education at Moline Rural School District in Franklin County, and graduated from Wilcox High School in 1949.
Following her education, Della was employed at the Phelps County Creamery in Holdrege until her marriage. On February 1, 1952, Della was united in marriage to Gerald Dean Heathers at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox. This union was blessed with three daughters: Debra Ann, Cora Jean, and Vickie Lee. The family made their home in Huntley until 1976 when they moved to Bladen, Nebraska. Della worked as a bookkeeper for the CO-OP Grain and Supply in Huntley and Roseland, Nebraska. In 1990, the family moved to Alma.
Della was a member of the Alma United Methodist Church, the Friends of the Library and the Tuesday Morning Bowling League. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, reading, crocheting, knitting and quilting. Della was an avid walker and especially walking near the lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother in infancy, Virgil; her husband, Gerald on March 31, 2013; sister, Rolene Kralich and her husband, Rudy; and a brothers-in-law, Glen Heathers; Lloyd White; and Marshall Heathers and his wife, Naomi.
Della is survived by; her three daughters: Deb Buttermore and her husband, Gary of Lincoln, Nebraska; Jean Melton and her husband, Harvey of Holdrege; and Vickie Maulucci of Hastings; seven grandchildren: Matthew Buttermore and his wife, Laura; Maggie (Buttermore) Clayton and her husband, Steven; Tyler Richardson; Heather Muirhead; Bryce Richardson; Sally Muirhead; and Frankie Jo Maulucci; four great-grandchildren: Kelly and Kalob Taylor; and Emelyn and Lainey Buttermore; two sisters: Donita White of Lincoln; and Ruth Patterson and her husband, Millard "Gene" of Jackson Gap, Alabama; one brother-in-law, Wayne Heathers and his wife, Loretta of North Platte, Nebraska; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.
Memorials are suggested to the Alma United Methodist Church or the Hoesch Memorial Public Library in Alma.
