Funeral Services for Delmar R. Ebmeier will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Connie Karr, officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska with military honors provided by the Bertrand Veterans Organization in conjunction with the U.S. Army National Guard Military Honors Team.

Delmar Rueben Ebmeier, 78 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Health Care in Hastings, Nebraska. Delmar was born November 17, 1933 on a farm south of Bertrand in Gosper County, Nebraska, the son of Ernest E. and Hilda (Wilken) Ebmeier. When Delmar was three years of age, his mother passed away and he then began to live with Louis and Myrtle Kehr until he was six. In August of 1939, his father married Ruth Kehr. The following summer he went to live with his father and step-mother.

Delmar received his primary education from District #40 until the eighth grade and then graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1951. He attended his 60th class reunion in 2011.

Delmar served his country in the United States Army from August of 1954 until his honorable discharge in August of 1956. He was in Germany for 18 months of his service. He continued to serve in the Army Reserves until August 11, 1962.

Delmar returned to the family farm south of Bertrand, where he engaged in farming until his retirement. His family received the Pioneer Family Farm Award in 2004.

In 1968 he was united in marriage to Frances Johnston, the couple moved to the farm in 1970 when his parents moved into Bertrand. In November of 2006, Delmar and Frances began to make their home in Bertrand.

Delmar enjoyed all his years of farming, especially the field work and raising Hereford cattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother; three brothers-in-law: Wayne Johnston and his wife, Maxine, John Johnston, and Melvin Johnston; and sister-in-law, Isabelle Erickson.

He is survived by his wife, Frances of Bertrand; one brother, Darold Ebmeier and his wife, Mary Ann of Maywood, Nebraska; one sister, Betty Babcock and her husband, Allen of Scotia, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Harold Erickson and his wife, Carol of Holdrege; sister-in-law, Karen Johnston of Oxford, Nebraska; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
