Funeral Services for Delmar D. McGee will be conducted from the Hope Lutheran Church in rural Smithfield, Nebraska on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Cathi Braasch, officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska.

Delmar Dallas McGee, 88 years of age, of rural Smithfield, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, Nebraska. Delmar was born January 28, 1919 on the family farm south of Smithfield in Gosper County, Nebraska, the youngest of two sons to Frank and Ollie (Detenbeck) McGee. He received his education in rural Gosper County.

Following his education, Delmar was united in marriage to Neomia Doris Forster on August 31, 1941 at the Hope Lutheran Church and to this union four children were born: Dallas, Charlene, Arlan and Cherrise. During his younger years, Delmar enjoyed playing baseball and softball for the town teams. The couple made their home in California briefly before returning home to the family farm one mile north of Smithfield, where they resided and engaged in farming for over 64 years. Upon his retirement from farming, Delmar continued to be involved tending to his garden and enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. On February 6, 2006 he was preceded in death by his wife, Neomia.

Delmar was an active member of the Hope Lutheran Church for many years, served on the Smithfield School Board and enjoyed the many friendship bonds formed through the years working as an auctioneer with Brell & Brell Auctioneers of Elwood. Delmar's family was always the center of his life. He especially enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's activities.

He leaves to mourn his passing his four children: Dallas McGee of Lincoln, Nebraska, Charlene Land and her husband, Bob of Bertrand, Arlan McGee and his wife, Mary of Kearney, Nebraska and Cherrise Meier and her husband, Monte of North Platte, Nebraska; ten grandchildren: Brynn Pratt and her husband, Ben of Lincoln, Jill McGee of El Paso, Texas, Ty McGee and his wife, Leah of Chicago, Illinois, Cristal Hansen and her husband, Jeremy of Smithfield, Aaron Imler of Kearney, Brock McGee and his wife, Jen of Lincoln, Brooke McGee of Kearney, Brandon Meier and his wife, Beth of Oklahoma City, OK, Logan Meier of Lincoln and Austin Meier of North Platte; two great-grandchildren: Addison Hansen and Trajan McGee; three step-grandchildren: Heather Christensen and her husband, Nick of Cairo, Nebraska, Summer Land of Hastings, Nebraska, Kyel Land of Holdrege; sister-in-law, Winona Bogner and her husband, Marvin of Kearney; brother-in-law, Verlouis Forster and his wife, Darlene of Smithfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Shelly McGee; brother, Orley McGee and his wife, Doris; sister-in-law, Shirley Forster; brother-in-law, Norris Forster in childhood.

Delmar will lie in state at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand on Tuesday, January 11, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in his memory and suggested to the Hope Lutheran Church.
