Memorial Services for Delmar S. "John" Dollar will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. Gary Winget, officiating.

Delmar Samuel "John" Dollar, 79 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the Bertrand Nursing Home in Bertrand, Nebraska. He was born August 28, 1928 at Prim, Arkansas, the son of Samuel and Naomi (Turney) Dollar. He received his education at Shirley, Arkansas. Following his education, John was inducted into the United States Marine Corps on May 2, 1952 and served his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on June 30, 1959. After his discharge, John began a tree cutting service in Princeton, Illinois in 1962.

On January 26, 1964 he was united in marriage to Betty Jo Morrison and to this union one daughter, Deborah was born. With this union to Betty, John also lovingly accepted Betty's children into his life. In addition, John also had six children from a previous marriage: David, Johnny, Ronnie, Paul, Margaret and Dennis. The family made their home in Dennison, Iowa until moving to Grand Island, Nebraska in 1974. John was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad as a mechanic. In 1979, they moved to Elm Creek, Nebraska, where he ran the L & S Service Station for several years. Through the years, he was also employed by the Canron Railroad and the Burlington Northern Railroad until his retirement in 1996. Following his retirement, the couple moved to Holdrege. During his retirement years, the change of pace was welcomed, he enjoyed relaxing and visiting family and friends. He had a great passion for his family, John also enjoyed going to coffee with his friends, hunting, fishing, playing the guitar and had a special place in his heart for animals.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Betty of Holdrege; three daughters: Debbie Gallegos of Holdrege, Mary Jane Clark and her husband, Jerry of Oklahoma and Margaret Tallman and her husband, Earl of Arkansas; seven sons: Terry Morrison and his wife, Carolyn of Washington State, Donny Morrison of Kansas, David Dollar, Johnny Dollar, Ronnie Dollar, Paul Dollar and his wife, Lori of Arkansas and Dennis Dollar all of Arkansas. In addition he is also survived by a host of grandchildren including: Chris, Shandi, Tyler, Nolan, Allysa, Richard, Shannon, Brandi, Brandon, Sarah, Paula, Jerry, Jennifer, Adrian, Gerald, Ronnie Jr., Desmond, Miranda, Heather and Kayla; several great-grandchildren; five sisters: Geneva, Modina, Mona, Thelma and Velma; one brother, Isaac; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Samantha Jo; four brothers: Leonard, Amos, Shirley and Martin.

There will be no visitation, the family is honoring John's wish for cremation.
