Memorial Services for Delvin L. Engel will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Daren Popple officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army Funeral Honors Team, at the funeral home.  Inurnment will be held at a later date, at the Geneva Public Cemetery, Geneva, Nebraska.

Delvin Leroy Engel, 73 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019 at his home. Delvin was born September 22, 1945 in Geneva, Nebraska, the second of four children born to Julius N. and Viola Merle (Mills) Engel. He received his education from Fairmont Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1963.  He then pursued higher education from Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska, graduating in 1965 with a degree in Diesel Mechanics.

Following his education, Delvin was inducted into the United States Army on November 17, 1965. He served during the Vietnam War, aboard the U.S.N.S. Corpus Christi Bay, as an aviation mechanic.  This was the Army's first and only floating aircraft maintenance facility.  It was anchored off the coast of Vietnam, during the height of the war.   Delvin was honorably discharged on August 24, 1967.

In 1969, he was united in marriage to Sharon Dominick in Aurora, Nebraska, and to this union, they were blessed with one son: Rich. The family made their home in Fairmont, where Delvin worked many years for Jacobson's Trucking.  When the business became Speedway Transportation, Delvin moved to Holdrege, where he continued to work.  Delvin and Sharon later divorced.  In 1993, he began working for Fairbank's International until his retirement in 2012.  In 2008, Delvin married his companion of 28 years, Pamela Hynes.

Delvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially loved to camp.  He also enjoyed watching his grandson, Grant play basketball.  Delvin always had a story to tell while spending time with family and friends.  He was a lifetime member of American Legion and a proud Past Commander of the American Legion Post #21 in Fairmont.

Besides his parents; he was preceded in death by; one sister, Linda Steinacher.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Pamela Engel; his son: Rich Engel and his wife, Rene; and one grandson:  Grant Engel, all of Holdrege; one sister, Ella Mae Payne and her husband, Ken of Lincoln, Nebraska; one brother, Larry Engel and his wife, Jayne of Huntley; step-daughter, Aumber Hollertz of Holdrege, Nebraska; two step-grandchildren:  Shannon Hollertz of Huntley and Dillion Hollertz of Holdrege; two step-great-granddaughters:  Brooklyn and Londyn Hale of Huntley; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation or memorial book signing.  The family has honored his wish for cremation.
