A Celebration of Life Service for Dennis L. Walton will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jones, officiating. Military rites will be provided at the funeral home by the United States Army Military Honors Team. Private family inurnment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege prior to the services.
Dennis Lynn Walton, 64 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at his home in Holdrege. Dennis was born February 6, 1949 in Holdrege, the second of three children born to Glen LeRoy and Bonnie May (Ryan) Walton. He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools. Following his education, Dennis was inducted into the United States Army on August 17, 1967 and served his country during Vietnam until his honorable discharge on July 30, 1969.
Following his service, Dennis returned home to Holdrege and was employed by Becton-Dickinson. During his time at B-D he continued to further his education through Central Community College at Hastings, Nebraska, where he received his Associates Degree in Applied Sciences.
On October 10, 1970, he was united in marriage to Nancy Effenbeck and to this union one son, Glen Michael was born. With this marriage, Dennis also adopted Nancy's daughter, Wendy. The family made their home in Bertrand, Nebraska. Dennis continued his employment at B-D until his retirement after 35 years of service.
Throughout the years, Dennis was a member of the Becton-Dickinson Alumni. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going for a ride on his Harley, and later in life Dennis loved attending his grandchildren's activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a good friend who was like a brother to him, Jim Owens.
He leaves to mourn his passing; his son, Glen Walton of Loomis, Nebraska; daughter, Wendy Walton of Holdrege; three grandchildren: Alexander Walton, Madison Walton and Abbey Palazzola; one sister, Sharon Anderson and her husband, Ken of Kearney, Nebraska; one brother, Micheal Walton of Hastings; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial book signing will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Dennis' honor and kindly suggested to the American Heart Association.
