Funeral services for Dewane L. de la Motte will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell and Vicar Dan Wiese officiating. Interment will be held at the Highland Park Cemetery at Ravenna, Nebraska.
Dewane L. de la Motte, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Kearney and Lexington, Nebraska) passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. He was born November 8, 1925 on a farm near Hazard, Nebraska in Sherman County, the first of four children born to Lawrence and Alma (Beethe) de la Motte. He was baptized November 22, 1925 in the Trinity Lutheran Church near Hazard and was then confirmed on April 6, 1941.
Dewane lived on a farm near Hazard and farmed with his father until 1957 when a tractor accident took his father's life. In 1960, he moved with his mother to Kearney, Nebraska where he worked for a farmer. He then attended Diesel Mechanic school at Milford, Nebraska. He then was employed by John Deere as a diesel mechanic in Kearney, Elm Creek and Lexington. In 1992, he retired and moved to Holdrege and in 2005 moved into Holdrege Memorial Homes because of failing health.
Dewane was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles de la Motte and his wife, Dorothy, a sister, Jeanet Myers and her husband, Ralph; brother-in-law: Delbert Bartels; nephew-in-law, Bob Fuestman and great-nephew, Colt Bartels.
He leaves to mourn his passing one sister, Venla Bartels of Holdrege; three nieces: Sharon Sherbert and her husband, Mike of Seward, Nebraska, Rebecca Partridge and her husband, Bruce of Lincoln, Nebraska, Paula Fuestman of Axtell; six nephews: John Bartels of Omaha, Nebraska, Larry Bartels and his wife, Ann of Bertrand, Mike Bartels and his wife, Julie of Holdrege, Rodney Bartels and his wife, Tori of Holdrege, David de la Motte and his wife, LaJean of Grand Island, Tim Myers and his wife, Karen of Axtell; several great nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Dewane's honor and kindly suggested to the Lutheran Hour.
