Funeral services for Don E. Tegtman will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at Stamford, Nebraska on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Thalia Woodworth officiating. Interment will be held at the Stamford Cemetery following the services. Military Honors will be conducted by Stamford American Legion Merlin Palmer Post # 233 in conjunction with the U.S. Navy Military Honors Team.

Don Edward Tegtman, 76 years of age, of rural Stamford, passed away at his home on Sunday evening, October 29, 2017 surrounded by his sons, daughters, and grandchildren. Don was born on January 10, 1941 in Oxford, Nebraska, the second of two sons born to John Edward and Edna Marie (McCarver) Tegtman. He grew up in the Stamford area, and graduated from Stamford High School with the class of 1958.

On August 25, 1963, he was united in marriage to Kathy Sawyer, a relationship of growing love that was to last more than 53 years. Kathy recently passed away on February 27, 2017. Don and Kathy had five children: Brad, Wendy, Cory, Sheila and Karen.

Don was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford. After graduating from High School, he entered the United States Navy on January 6, 1959, until his honorable discharge on December 19, 1961. After returning from the Navy, he started his farming career which grew over the years. Upon retirement, the farm business was passed on to his son, Cory whom had already been an integral person in the growth of the farm. Even after retiring, he assisted Cory with the operations. During his later years, Don was the Furnas County Weed Superintendent, and was later elected for three terms as a Furnas County Commissioner. Over the years, Don was involved in the community serving on the Stamford School Board, the Board of Mid-Nebraska Individual Services, was a member of the American Legion, served on the board of Precept Cemetery, and was active with the Furnas/Harlan County Partnership.

One of his great joys in life was his eight grandchildren.

Besides his parents, and wife Kathy, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Polly K. Sawyer.

Don leaves to celebrate his life, his five children; Brad Tegtman of Keller, Texas; Wendy Tegtman of Pittsburg, Kansas; Cory Tegtman of Stamford; Sheila Pabst of Charleston, South Carolina; and Karen Kramer of Oxford; eight grandchildren: Gregory; Samone and her husband, Nate; Cierra; Carl Jr.; Jacob; Molly; Brock; and Saige; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Ilene Tegtman of Stamford; sister-in-law, Pauline Richter of South Haven, Michigan; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home at Oxford.

A memorial had been established in Don's honor, and kindly suggested to the Stamford Fire and Rescue.
