Donald J Hanson

Funeral Service for Donald J. Hanson will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand, Nebraska with Pastor Ted Carnahan officiating.  Interment will follow at the Immanuel Cemetery, north of Bertrand, in Phelps County.

Donald Jay Hanson, 82 years of age, of Bertrand, passed on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at CHI Health – Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska.  Donald was born on August 26, 1935 in Bertrand, one of six children born to Carl and Juliete (Peterson) Hanson.  He received his education from Bertrand High School and pursued higher education from Kearney State College, taking Business Management classes.

At a young age, Donald began working on the family farm.  At the age of 8, he began driving tractor for his dad and within a few years his dad let him farm on his own.

In 1957, Donald was united in marriage to Frances Yourges in Bertrand.  To this union, five children were born:  Jay, Tia, Jesse, Melissa and Jed.  The family made their home in the Bertrand area, where Donald farmed, raised cattle and cut silage.  Donald enjoyed attending Bible Study at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jay Hanson; brother, Fred Hanson; and grandson, Thomas Hanson.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his children:  Tia Hanson of Bertrand; Jesse Hanson of Omaha; Melissa Hanson of Holdrege; and Jed Hanson of Lincoln; one granddaughter: Vannessa Hanson; one great-granddaughter: Summer Hanson; two sisters: Julie Reddy and her husband, Tom of Shoreview, Minnesota and Sylvera Holdt and her husband, David of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; two brothers: Richard Hanson and his wife, Nancy of Arizona and David Hanson and his wife, Sandy of Lincoln, Nebraska; along with other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held prior to the funeral on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Church in Bertrand.

A memorial has been established in Donald's honor, and will be designated at a later date.
