A Funeral Service for Donald L. Johnson will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska, Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Hildreth Cemetery, Hildreth, Nebraska.
Donald Leroy Johnson, 84 years of age, of rural Wilcox, Nebraska, died on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Don was born on September 7, 1938, in Minden, Nebraska, the second of five sons born to Fred and Frieda (Bruns) Johnson. He attended country school in Franklin County through the 8thgrade then attended high school in Wilcox, graduating with the class of 1957.
Don met his future wife, Sue Berkeypile on a blind date. They were married in Minden on March 10, 1961. Don and Sue lived and farmed south of Wilcox for 61 years.
Family was the most important to Don, second, were his cattle.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lavon Johnson; daughter, Vickie Johnson; grandson, Connor Johnson; and two sisters-in-law: Sharon Johnson and Shirley Berkeypile.
Don is survived by, his wife, Sue of 62 years, of rural Wilcox; daughter, Jane Klein and her husband, Kevin of Roseland, Nebraska; two sons: Brent Johnson and his wife, Diane of Grand Island, Nebraska; and Lynn Johnson and his wife, Robin of Kearney, Nebraska; five granddaughters: Melissa (Quintin) Cottle; Sarah (Martin) Hnizdil; Traci Klein; Paige (Joel) Wagman; and Lindsey Johnson; three great-granddaughters: Isabella and Scarlett Hnizdil; and Nora Cottle; one great-grandson, Brodie Wagman; three brothers: Delton (Merilee) Johnson of Broken Bow, Nebraska; Harold (Imogene) Johnson of Lakewood, Colorado; and Wayne Johnson of Wilcox; sister-in-law, Ann (Jim) Warner of Kimball, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Ned Berkeypile of Norman, Nebraska; along with many other relatives.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, with the family present.
Memorials in Don's honor and are kindly suggested to the Wilcox Volunteer Fire Department or the Republican City Volunteer Fire Department.
