Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Donna R. Rief on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska with Father Jamie Hottovy officiating. Interment will be held at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Orleans, Nebraska.
Donna Rae Rief, 78 years of age, of Indianapolis, Indiana (formerly of Orleans) passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the Millers Merry Manor in Indianapolis. She was born on August 8, 1933 at Omaha, Nebraska to Raymond Eugene and Mary Pearl (Albaugh) Casey.
She grew up in Omaha and received her education from Sacred Heart High School. She was united in marriage to William Henry Rief on November 1, 1957 in Omaha, Nebraska and to this union three children were born: Mary, Tim, and Michelle. The family lived in Omaha, where Donna focused her efforts on raising their children and being a homemaker. They purchased their own company, Rief Propane, which they operated out of Wilsonville and Orleans, Nebraska. Donna also worked for several years in the Deli at Sun Mart in Holdrege.
Donna loved to spend time with her family. She also enjoyed collecting and selling antiques. On September 19, 2010 she was preceded in death by her husband, William. Donna then began to make her home in Indianapolis to be near her daughter.
Besides her husband and parents, Donna was preceded in death by her one grandson, Sean Denton; two brothers-in-laws: Raymond and Leonard, and one sister-in-law, Bernice.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Tim Rief of Arkansas; two daughters: Mary Broers of Indianapolis and Michelle Nunnery of Lincoln, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Leuer and her husband, Howard of Indianapolis and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans. Prior to the Funeral Mass, Rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the church on Friday.
Memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date.
