Doreatha Mae Hyslop, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Doreatha was born on April 4, 1927 at Dunlap, Iowa, the third of four children born to William John and Emma Eliza (McCoid) Colgan. DeeDee received her education from Elwood, Nebraska, graduating from Elwood High School with the class of 1945. She then pursued higher education and her passion of nursing. DeeDee received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from the Tulsa Vocational School of Nursing in 1966.

Throughout the years, DeeDee was employed by several hospitals which included: Pawhuska, Bristow and Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She met her groom-to-be, and was united in marriage to Walter Hewitt Hyslop on January 3, 1947 at the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington. To this union four children were born: Joyce Anne, LeRoy Everett, Sandra Sue and Philo Hewitt. The family made their home south of Smithfield, where Walt farmed the Dettenbeck Place in Gosper County. In the years to come, the family settled to Oklahoma, where DeeDee focused her efforts on raising their children when they were younger and later resumed her nursing career and was employed by the St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Following their retirement, Walt and DeeDee established the Black Velvet Angus Ranch and Equine Stables near Tulsa. In 1996, they returned to Nebraska and made their home in Holdrege. On November 3, 2008, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walt.

DeeDee was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church, where she was active with the Alter Society, and was also active in the Senior Citizens Council. DeeDee will be remembered by her generosity, her witty sense of humor, and those that knew her well, referred to her as the "hat lady". Most generally, her vast array of dresses, hats and shoes all had to match.

Besides her husband and parents; DeeDee was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Walter and Lucy Hyslop; daughter, Sandra Sue McCarter; daughter-in-law, Andrea Hyslop; grandson, Marcus Pantry and his wife, Carol; great-granddaughter, Erycka Rodriguez; two sisters: Delpha Johnson and Dolores Naumann; two brothers-in-law: Louis and Kenneth Hyslop; sister-in-law, Boyda Jean McGill.
