Funeral Services for Doris L. Grove will be conducted from the Christian Church in Edison, Nebraska on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Kirk Einspahr, officiating. Interment will be in the Orleans Cemetery at Orleans, Nebraska.
Doris Louise Grove, 94 years of age, of Edison, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska.
Doris was born on December 10, 1913 near Cambridge in Red Willow County, Nebraska, the third of five children of John C. and Louise A. (Kuhlman) Dietz. When Doris was a child her family moved to a farm near Orleans.
On December 27, 1941 she was united in marriage to Woodrow Eldon "Woody" Grove of Long Island, Kansas and to this union two sons were born: Eldon and Don. While her husband served with the U.S. Army during WWII, Doris lived with her parents. After the war the couple made their home on a farm near Long Island, Kansas until they settled northeast of Edison in 1950 and engaged in farming and cattle feeding. In 1967 the couple moved into Edison when Woody became postmaster of the Edison Post Office. On October 16, 2005 she was preceded in death by her husband, Woody.
Doris was baptized as a child in the Methodist Church, and in 1960 she was baptized at the Christian Church in Edison. She remained a faithful member working in her church and teaching Sunday school for many years.
She leaves to mourn her passing her two sons: Eldon Grove and his wife, Betty Jo of Orleans and Don Grove and his wife, Connie of Edison; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lillian Ashley of Ragan, Nebraska and Maxine Miller of Oxford; brother-in-law, Loys Grove and his wife, Ivalee of Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Dietz and one sister, Agnes Schmalken.
Doris will lie in state at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral home in Oxford on Friday, August 15, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
