Memorial Services for Doris "Verlene" Schroder will be held on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Orleans Presbyterian Church in Orleans, Nebraska with Pastor Dave Irwin officiating. Private family inurnment will be held prior the service at the Orleans Cemetery.
Due to health concerns, regarding the COVID-19 pandemic; current CDC and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services guidelines for Faith-Based Services will be followed. The Schroder family sincerely encourages each person to make their decision whether to attend Verlene's service based on the best interest of your health, and that of your community. Doris "Verlene" Schroder, 84 years of age, of Orleans, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Verlene was born January 12, 1936 in Harlan County, Nebraska, the eldest of three children, born to Oliver "Stub" and Doris Iola (Russell) Sell. She received her primary education from District #25 Country School and then attended Orleans Public Schools, graduating from Orleans High School with the class of 1953.
On May 16, 1955, Verlene was united in marriage to Kenneth Schroder at the Orleans Presbyterian Church. The couple made their home in Orleans and this union was blessed with two daughters: Dee and Donna. Verlene worked at the Orleans Milling Company for 19 years. She then took a position at Farm Bureau Insurance in Alma,
Verlene enjoyed country music and dancing. She also enjoyed quilting; making baby blankets; volunteering at the Colonial Villa for many years; and playing BINGO and cards. She was a member of the Orleans Presbyterian Church, the Orleans Civic Club, and the Legion Auxiliary in Long Island, Kansas.
Verlene was preceded in death by; her parents; husband, Kenneth Schroder in 2011; and brother-in-law, Don Gimeson.
Verlene leaves to celebrate her life; her two daughters: Dee Schultz of Axtell, Nebraska; and Donna Lux and her husband, Ron of Republican City, Nebraska; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; brother, James Sell and his wife, Diane of Holdrege, Nebraska; sister, Allene Gimeson of Kearney; two sisters-in-law: Myrene Snyder and her husband, Alvin; and Wanda Cochran and her husband, Gordon, all of Alma; one brother-in-law, Daryle Schroder and his wife, Kay of Alma; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family has honored Verlene's wish for cremation. There will be no visitation or viewing.
A memorial has been established in Verlene's honor and kindly suggested to the Good Samaritan Society – Colonial Villa or to the Harlan County Senior Center.
