Funeral Services for Doris M. Sweeney will be conducted from the Westmark Evangelical Free Church of rural Loomis, Nebraska on Monday, November 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Rick Smith, officiating. Interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska.
Doris Marie Sweeney, 81 years of age, of rural Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2007 at the Christian Homes in Holdrege. Doris was born December 4, 1925 at Cozad, Nebraska, the second of three children of Fay and Delta (Small) Adams. She received her education from Cozad, graduating from Cozad High School with the class of 1944. Following her education, Doris was united in marriage to Ernest Dean Sweeney on June 15, 1946 at Cozad and to this union three children were born: Linda, Mark and Jim. The couple made their home north of Loomis on the family farm, where they engaged in farming and raising livestock. Doris enjoyed life on the farm and focused on raising their children.
She enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers and was an avid painter. Doris was a member of the Westmark Evangelical Free Church north of Loomis, where she was active with church circle and bible study for many years.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 61 ½ years, Ernie of rural Holdrege; daughter, Linda Baxter and her husband, Don of Glenvil, Nebraska; son, Mark Sweeney and his wife, Darlene of Holdrege; daughter-in-law, Pam Sweeney of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Alan Baxter and his wife, Heather of Aurora, Colorado, Jayne Van Emmerik of Glenvil, Nebraska, Eric Sweeney and his wife, Tracy of Philadelphia, PA, Andrew Sweeney of Loomis, Nebraska and his fiancé, Andi Huebert of Aurora, Nebraska, Katie Youngquist and her husband, Kody of Peru, Nebraska and Kim Sweeney and her fiancé, Don Cook, both of Ogallala, Nebraska; two step-grandchildren: Stefanie Reiner and her fiance, Dan Carlsted of Fargo, North Dakota and Scott Reiner of Holdrege; six great-grandchildren: Atley, Austin, Dylan, Logan, Carson and Ryan; one step great-granddaughter, Aubrey; sister-in-law, Zola Adams of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Don Turner of New Plymouth, Idaho; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jim; one brother, Milton Adams and one sister, Wilma Turner.
Doris will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Sunday, November 25, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and suggested to the Salvation Army.
