Private Family Memorial Graveside Services for Dorothea E. Nelson will be conducted from the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska.

Dorothea Elsa Nelson, 79 years of age, of Sargent, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege, Nebraska), passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Sargent. She was born March 2, 1930 in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, Canada, the youngest of eight children born to John and Anne (Kostniuk) Zaleschuk. She received her primary education in Rosthern and her secondary education at Battleford, Saskatchewan. Following her education, Dorothea worked at a hotel in Prince Albert as a chamber maid and waitress. She then attended the Success Business College in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan for a short time and at age 17 moved to Regina, Saskatchewan and worked in the Robert Simpson Department Store as a typist. She then moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba and worked as a typist for different businesses.

At the age of 21, Dorothea and some of her brothers and sisters changed their surname to "Allen." She then began working at the Prince of Whales Hotels, where she later met her future husband, Paul Nelson in 1954. She then moved to Calgary, Alberta and in February of 1955 she obtained a permanent United States Visa.

On October 15, 1955 she was united in marriage to Paul Norman Nelson and the couple moved to Chicago, Illinois. While in Chicago, Dorothea worked for the Sewart-Warner Corporation. Then in January of 1959 the couple moved to Flint, Michigan. It was at this time that the couple's only son, George Gustaf Nelson was born. After the birth of George, Dorothea became a full-time housewife and mother.

In the early 1990's, the family moved to Holdrege. In 2008, Dorothea moved to Sargent due to her failing health. Dorothea was preceded in death by her son, George on February 4, 2008 and her husband, Paul on May 12, 2009.

She leaves to mourn her passing one half-sister, Anne Kit and her husband, Emil of Saskatchewan; one brother-in-law, John G. Nelson and his wife, Elenore of Loomis and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides her parents, husband and son, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Alexander Allen and his wife, Elsie, Nicholas Allen and his wife, Mary, George Zaleschuk and his wife, Irene and Demetro Zaleschuk; three sisters: Mary Robson and her husband, Jacob, Helen Hall and her husband, Elmer, and Patricia Gauthir and her husband, Bud; and five half-siblings.

A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later time.

There will be no visitation as the family is honoring her wish for cremation.
