A funeral service for Dorothy M. Barber will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Tom Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Bertrand, Nebraska.

Dorothy May Barber, 82 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on February 2, 2025, at her home. Dorothy was born in Wilsonville, Nebraska on January 20, 1943, the second of twelve children, born to Maurice and Helen (Walton) Keyser. She received her education from Wilsonville Public School.

On January 20, 1977, Dorothy Keyser was united in marriage to Claude "Dean" Barber in Wichita, Kansas. The couple made their home in Wichita until moving to Bertrand in August of 1994. Dorothy worked for Becton Dickinson for 10 years. She then moved to Wichita and started working for Beach Aircraft, where she worked for over 20 years. Dorothy engraved several celebrities' names on their custom airplanes and would then get to meet some of them.

Dorothy enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, doing yard work, and tending to her flowerbeds. She never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Dorothy was a great cook and her family looked forward to her cornbread stuffing each Thanksgiving.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Ricky Alexander; step-daughter, Jennie Barber; son-in-law: Mike Bernstrauch; one granddaughter-in-law, Keri Bernstrauch; two sisters: Linda Keyser as a small girl; Betty Morris; two brothers: Jimmy Keyser as a small boy; Jerry Keyser; two brothers-in-law: Wayne Hansen; Wiley Wagner; three nephews: Scott Keyser; Jeff Bradley; and Jerry Donaly.

Dorothy is survived by her three children: David Alexander and his wife, Sherry of Lake Lotta Wana, Missouri; Vicki Bernstrauch of Holdrege; Rhonda Heasty and special friend, Philip Covey of Wichita; three step-daughters: Deanna Salas and her husband, Ernie of Derby, Kansas; Angela Winslow and her husband, Marty of Olathe, Kansas; Linda Chambers of Wichita; eight grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Mike Keyser of Holdrege; Tom Keyser and his wife, Jennifer of Fairbury, Nebraska; Craig Keyser of Council Bluffs, Iowa; four sisters: Marjorie Hansen of Staplehurst, Nebraska; JoAnn Wagner of Barnard, Missouri; Patty Sisneros and her husband, Rudy of Frederick, Colorado; Shirley Bradley and her husband, Harold of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Nelson Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

Memorials in Dorothy's honor are suggested to Bertrand Fire and Rescue.
