Dorothy Clinch

Dorothy Clinch, affectionately known by those who loved her as "Woo Woo", 94 years of age, of Portland, Maine passed away April 15, 2009 in her beloved state of Maine. She was diagnosed the end of July 2008 with colon cancer after visiting a doctor for the first time in 62 years.

In 1933, she eloped with the love of her life, Franklin I. Clinch and together they raised 5 children. She spent her entire career, 39 years, making poker chips used in casinos throughout the world. On March 13, 1992 at the age of 77, she made history by being the oldest person to skydive in Nebraska with her son, Terry Clinch from Holdrege. This was a life long dream come true for both of them. She traveled 48 of the 50 United States, took a bare foot cruise and flying lessons plus crashed in a hot air balloon the same week she went sky diving in Nebraska.

"Woo Woo" inspired many by her positive attitude, zest for life and encouraging words of wisdom. She loved Maine and the sea, spending many hours sitting on the rocks at Two Lights, Cape Elizabeth. She truly lived and enjoyed every day.

Survivors include her 5 children and their families including: Terry Clinch and his wife, Darlene of Holdrege, Nebraska, Franklin I. Clinch, Jr. of New Port Richey, Florida, Rita Drew of Portland, Donalene Fox and Jacquelin Copeland both of Hiram, Maine; 15 grandchildren including: Leesa Clinch of Kearney, Nebraska and Tawni Walton of Loomis, Nebraska. She is also survived by 28 great-grandchildren including: Alexander and Madison Walton of Loomis and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Her life was always about others, their happiness and well-being. For this reason she selflessly donated her body to the University of New England for scientific research. As per her wishes, there will be no services. She will be fondly remembered for her molasses cookies and chocolate cupcakes with boiled frosting. A family celebration of her life will take place in Maine this summer.

A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
