Funeral Services for Dorothy E. Harris will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Dale Lambert, officiating. Interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska.
Dorothy Emily Harris, 73 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center at Holdrege. Dorothy was born March 5, 1938 at Lincoln, Nebraska, the eldest of two daughters of Joseph and Emma (Kohel) Prokop. She received her education from Crete Public Schools and then pursued higher education at the Lincoln School of Commerce. Her interest in nursing enabled her to graduate from Omaha School of Practical Nursing in 1961. Dorothy was employed by the Veterans Administration in Livermore, California and Omaha and Lincoln. In 1969, Dorothy was employed by the Methodist Memorial Homes in Holdrege. In 1970, Dorothy was united in marriage to Kenneth Bruce Harris and they made their home on the Harris homestead north of Loomis. To this union three children were born: William Edward, Edwin Joseph, and Linda Rose.
Dorothy enjoyed her life as farm wife, mother, homemaking, gardening and sewing. On July 14, 1986 she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth or as he was known, "K.B." Following the death of K.B., Dorothy and their children continued farming. In 2000, she moved into Holdrege.
She enjoyed her time in church activities, attending the First United Methodist Church all of her life.
Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a nephew, James E. Doremus; and sister-in-law, Elaine Harris.
She leaves to mourn her passing her three children: Bill Harris and his wife, Monica of Loomis, Ed Harris and his wife, Becky of Loomis and Linda Edgren and her husband, Kyle of Elm Creek, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Brady and Bailey Edgren and Sydney and Natalie Harris; sister, Lorene Doremus and her husband, Dwayne of Crete, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Russell L. Harris of Cedaredge, Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
Dorothy will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Saturday, April 23, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
