Memorial Services for Dorothy J. Lavene will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church, in rural Smithfield, Nebraska with Pastor Tim Glendening officiating. Private family interment will be in the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska.
Dorothy Jane Lavene, 90 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Dorothy was born March 24, 1922 on the family farm north of Bertrand in Phelps County, Nebraska, the second of four children born to Harry Hassall and Maggie Marie (Richardson) Bonser. She received her primary education from Ash Grove School and later attended Bertrand High School.
On June 1, 1941 she was united in marriage to Paul O. Lavene and to this union five children were born: Sharon, Darrel, Ronald, Kent and Nancy.
Dorothy was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church. She was involved in the women's organizations at the church. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, collecting spoons and playing cards.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by three brothers: Francis, Junior and Marion Bonser and two sisters-in-law: Fran Bonser and Marie Bonser.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Paul, of Bertrand, children: Sharon Kreutzer and her husband, Marlo of Funk, Nebraska, Darrel Lavene and his wife, Veronica of Bertrand, Nebraska; Ronald Lavene and his wife, Sharon Kay of Fairfield, Nebraska, Kent Lavene and his partner, Frank Ellis of Omaha, Nebraska, and Nancy Fowler and her husband, Richard of Bertrand; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law: Shirley Bonser of Bertrand, Dixie Bonser of Springfield, Missouri and Rose Wilken of Bertrand and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated to the Hope Lutheran Church.
