Funeral services for Dorothy J. Soderholm will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with the Soderholm family officiating.  Interment will be held in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, following the services.

Dorothy Joyce Soderholm, 91 years of age, of Lincoln, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege), died on Thursday, April 13 th , 2017 at the Eastmont Towers Community in Lincoln.  Dorothy was born May 9, 1925, in Holdrege, the second child of Arthur and Minnie (Sauer) Soderholm.  The family lived on the Soderholm farm northwest of Funk.

She attended District #26 county school, and graduated as valedictorian from Holdrege High School in 1942.  Dorothy then pursued higher education, and graduated from Kearney State Teacher's College with a major in English, and minors in Social Science and Latin.  She taught school at the Christian Children's Home in Holdrege, and taught Latin in Peetz, Colorado.  Dorothy continued to further her education, and graduated from Trinity Free Church Bible Institute and Seminary in Chicago, Illinois, and then from Wheaton College graduate school in Wheaton, Illinois with a Master of Arts degree in Biblical Literature, majoring in Greek and Hebrew languages.  Dorothy also graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois with a Master of Science degree in Library Science.  In addition, with her love of education, Dorothy's continued education included course work in German and Greek.

Dorothy was a seminary and college librarian in Illinois, a junior high and high school librarian in Maryland, the assistant head of the cataloging department and an assistant professor at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, as well as assistant professor and principal serials cataloger at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

Dorothy enjoyed writing poetry, studying the Bible, learning languages, helping others understand the Greek and Hebrew used in the Biblical text, and praying for many people.

Survivors include her two brothers:  Arthur Soderholm, Jr. of Holdrege and Harvey Soderholm and his wife, Joyce of Lincoln; one sister, Beverly Soderholm of Lincoln; many nephews and nieces, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marjorie Soderholm; one sister-in-law, Barbara Soderholm and one nephew, Gerald Soderholm.

Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 with the family greeting from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

A memorial has been established in her memory for Wycliffe Bible Translators.
