A Memorial Service for Dorothy Weitzel will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Timnath Presbyterian Church in Timnath, Colorado, with a lunch reception following the service. A private family inurnment will be held earlier that morning.

Dorothy Elaine (Blehm) Weitzel, 89 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, formerly of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege following a short illness.  Dorothy had relocated to Holdrege to live with her daughter, Linda Wells.  She was born on November 26, 1931, in Fort Collins, the fourth of four children to Fred and Natalia (Deines) Blehm.  Dorothy graduated from Fort Collins High School, with the class of 1950.

On January 14, 1951, Dorothy married John Edward Weitzel and the couple made their home in the Timnath, Colorado area where they operated a dairy, fed cattle and farmed.  They had three children:  Linda, Tom and Sharon.  Dorothy took great pride in being a homemaker and raising her family.

She was a lifelong member of the Timnath Presbyterian Church, and served in the choir and on various committees over the years.

Dorothy will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Her passions included flower arranging, cooking and baking, and cheering on her beloved Denver Broncos.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Weitzel on August 23, 2004; and two brothers:  Reinie Blehm; and Wilbur Blehm; and one sister, Ruby (Blehm) Roth.

Survivors include her three children:  Linda Wells of Holdrege, Nebraska, Tom Weitzel (Cindy) of Overton, Nebraska, Sharon Popp (Nicholas) of Carlsbad, California;  grandchildren: Nikki Wells of Urbandale, Iowa, Andrew Weitzel (Shari) of Eustis, Nebraska, Jon Wells (Kari) of Elm Creek, Nebraska and Alex Yount (Connor) of Fremont, Nebraska;  great-grandchildren Dallas Weitzel, Aubrey Weitzel and Sam Weitzel of Eustis, Nebraska, Mazie Wells of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Grant Yount and Max Yount of Fremont, Nebraska and Nickolas Wells-Carstens and Christopher Wells-Carstens of Urbandale, Iowa; Brother-in-law Jim Weitzel of Peoria, Arizona; Sisters-in-law:  Alvinia Blehm of Loveland, Colorado, Darlene Blehm of Fort Collins, Colorado and Mary Ratterree of The Woodlands, Texas.

Memorials are suggested to the Timnath Presbyterian Church or to Colorado State University Development Fund – Weitzel Family Farm Scholarship.
