Graveside Services for Dorothylee Kirk will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at the Alma Cemetery in Alma, Nebraska with Pastor Larry Doubet officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. – Noon at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma. In addition to the graveside and visitation, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Alberta Dorothylee Kirk, 91 years of age, of Eugene, Oregon, (formerly of Phillipsburg, Kansas) passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at her home in Eugene. She was born on November 15, 1923 in rural Phillips County, Kansas, the first of twin girls born to David L. and Jennie C. (Wolfe) Kirk. At the age of 3, the family relocated to Hastings, Nebraska, where she completed the third grade at Morton Elementary School. In 1932, the family returned to Phillips County, where she continued her education at the Caswell Rural School and then graduated from Woodruff High School in Woodruff, Kansas with the class of 1941. She then pursued higher education at the Fort Hays Kansas State College in Hays, Kansas where she attained 36 hours of teaching classes.
Dorothylee taught two years in the rural schools of Phillips County, after which she served as the bookkeeper and accountant to the County Engineer in Phillipsburg, Kansas for 29 ½ years until her retirement in 1975. She then remained at home to care for her terminally ill mother until her passing in 1982 and then for her father until his passing in 1986.
Dorothylee received Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 12 and was baptized by immersion at the Christian Church in Alma on December 1, 1935. She was a past member of the EUB Church in Woodruff, the Christian Church in Alma and also attended services at the Calvary Baptist Church in Phillipsburg.
She enjoyed visiting with her friends, was active in her bible study and also enjoyed keeping up to date on current events.
Dorothylee was preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister, Kathalee Brock.
She is survived by her nephew, Bill Brock and his wife, Shirley of Eugene, Oregon; 3 great-nephews: Danny Conner and his wife, Jena, Kelly Conner and his wife, Michelle, and Travis Brock and his wife, Ashley; 1 great-niece, Alisha Walton and her husband, Danny; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Dorothylee's honor and kindly suggested to the American Cancer Society.
