A Memorial Service for Douglas Negley will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, Holdrege, Nebraska, with Pastor Murray Jones and Chaplain DeWane Dow, officiating. A private inurnment will be held at the Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, at a future time.
Douglas Lee Negley, 74 years, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. He was born November 24, 1951, the youngest of eight children, to Weston A. and Eloris M. (Gydesen) Negley, in North Platte, Nebraska. Doug attended Jefferson Adams Jr. High and then graduated from North Platte High School, with the class of 1970.
He pursued higher education from Mid-Plains Tech College in North Platte and an attained an electrical degree.
Doug was united in marriage to Edna Sue Pennington. This union was blessed with two sons: Kenneth and Josiah. The couple would later divorce.
On January 3, 1998, Doug was united in marriage to Novita K. (Mooney) Stewart in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made their home in rural Holdrege. Doug worked for Valley Vending for 37 years, as a vending repairman. He also worked on pool tables, dart boards, and games.
Doug loved the outdoors, especially camping, gardening flowers, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his dogs and cats. Doug will be remembered for this CB Handle, “Candy Man”. He was a member of the Rocking Mountain Elk Foundation, the National Turkey Federation, and the Turkey Creek Strutters Club. Doug and Novita enjoyed traveling across Nebraska to different banquets.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Weston and Eloris Negley; his son, Kenneth A. Negley; his step-son, Neil C. Stewart; his siblings: brothers, Weston, Jr., and James L.; sisters, Linda Sullivan; Patty Gastineau; and Wanda Weiche; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Raymond and Betty (Tompkin) Mooney.
Doug leaves to celebrate his life, his wife, Novita Negley of rural Holdrege; son, Josiah Negley of Yankton, South Dakota; step-son, Dustin Stewart of Atlanta, Nebraska; seven grandchildren: Hanna, Carly, and Rhett Stewart; Trenten and Axl Negley; and Maya and Abcde Negley; his siblings: Marilyn Massey of Lake City, Florida; and Sandra Trapp of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: James and his wife, Liane Mooney of Holdrege; Leonard Mooney and his wife, Jane of Holdrege; Peggy Hickman of Minden; and Roberta Negley of York, Nebraska; in addition, several nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
There will not be a visitation, viewing or memorial book signing the evening prior to the service. The family will honor his wish for cremation.
