Funeral Services for Earl E. Carlson will be conducted from the Christian Homes Chapel in Holdrege, Nebraska on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend David Sites and Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating. Inurnment will be held prior to services at 12:30 p.m. in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege with military honors conducted by the Holdrege American Legion Post #66 in conjunction with the Nebraska National Guard Military Honors Team.

Earl Edward Carlson, 91 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2008 at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. Earl was born June 12, 1917 near Sacramento in Phelps County, Nebraska, the youngest of three children of Carl Edwin and Maggie (Walters) Carlson. He attended school at Sacramento, Nebraska through 10th grade and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1936. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from December 10, 1942 until September 24, 1943.

On December 10, 1944 he was united in marriage to Elaine Youngmark at Stuttgart, Kansas and to this union one son, David was born. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Earl was employed as an engraver for Palmer Brothers Granite Company for over 30 years.

He was past member of the Eagles Club and a past member of the Elks Lodge, past Commander of the Martin Horn American Legion Post #66 and in charge of the American Legion Color Guard for several years. He received a 60 year service award from the American Legion and was a life member. Earl enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Elaine of Holdrege; one son, David L. Carlson of Holdrege; a sister-in-law, Edith Youngmark of Holdrege; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Pearl Anderson and Leona Lyon; and three brother-in-laws: Paul Anderson, Milburn Lyon and Bernard Youngmark.

There will be no visitation as his family is honoring his wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
